Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Pgs 44-88

Quote analysis

The very worst poetry of all perished along with its creator, Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of green bridge, Essex, England in the destruction of the planet earth.

I chose this quote because I liked how the author keeps referring back to the human race on earth to the worst race in the entire universe. Its like we today think of aliens as being gross creatures that want to take over everything, but this book and the author portray the human race as being gross creatures, its still aliens that want to take over, but some of it is contrasted.

This quote tells more about how you will see the rest of the universe treat Author and how they will see him. Author will continue to be called a human, in a bad way, and he will continue to be discriminated against by all the other creatures. Except Ford, Ford will probably be Author’s only friend.

Questions:

  1. What do you think the Improbability Drive is and how does it work?

2. What do you think about the Vogons and how they act?

I think how the improb. drive works is explained in that chapter dedicated to how it works. Anyway to explain, it was made by a guy that was more intelligent than a ton of geeks that werent invited to some certain type of parties. It works by feeding a machine that uses a DOS system a cup of tea, which spits out a number that is very improbable, silimar to C-3PO when confronted with survival questions. An "atomic vector plotter" is put in the tea, making molecules move in a very improbable way regarding the situation. A artificial intelligence system then puts in a command to give a wanted result that the plotter executes.

The Vogons are bad at poetry. period. They act like they know how bad thier poetry is. One of their greatest offensive strenghts is thier {insert word here. Hint: it starts with poe.}.

I think you make too strong assumptions about the book, like saying it says that humans are horrible. Its just making fun with things we already know and some inside jokes.

Well with its immense improbability it is very very hard to predict. It is unlike anything else and it allows you to cross galaxies with the press of a button. It makes you go everywhere in the universe at the same time and end up at one point, which is hopefully the co-ordinates you put in.

I imagine most of the universe is this way. Rude, especially to lower life forms like humans. They know that they're superior and they abuse that fact.

I agree it does keep referring to humans being weak and inferior. Who knows what ford may do later but they will probably stick together.
