Chapters 20-24

Quote
"Oh yes, the guards called to him to stop. They fired a few shots in the air, then to kill. They got him just as he went over the fence. They said if he'd had 2 good arms he'd have made it, he was moving that fast. Seventeen bullet holes in him. They didn't have to shoot him that much. Cal, I want you to come out with me and help me tell Helen."

(This was when Atticus was telling Aunt Alexandra what had happened to Tom Robinson and how he was shot while trying to escape from jail, Scout was hiding and listening)

Response
I chose this quote because this is another example of how Atticus probably knew that Scout was there listening but he didn't want to have to tell Scout to her face because he or Scout might freak out and start crying, and he didn't want to have to be in that situation. I thought that Tom was acting out of desperately, because he knew he was going to die any ways and he might as well die doing something that might get him free than to die for a crime he never did.

Significance
This shows that Tom Robinson knew that he was going to die so he was the kind of person to just take a chance and possibly live. This also shows that Atticus knows he won't be able to handle Hellen crying so he wants Aunt Alexandra to come and help calm her, so Alexandra was coming into actually doing something use full instead of just wasting food and decreasing every bodies self pride.

Questions
1. So I explained what I thought when I heard Tom Robinson die, what did you think?

2. Now that Tom Robinson has died, how do you supposed the book will go on without him?

Chapters 16-19

Quote

Quote #5 Beginning of Chapter 19

As Tom Robinson gave his testimony, it came to me that Mayella Ewell must have been the loneliest person in the world. She was even lonelier than Boo Radley, who had not been out of the house in twenty-five years.

(This was when Jem, Dill, and Scout were watching Atticus talking to Tom Robinson during the trial)

Response

I though that it was weird that Boo Radley had become such a big part of the Finch’s life that Scout just used Boo as a person to compare other people to. At the same time Scout is using a proper metaphor, saying that Mayella is so lonely that she is more lonely that Boo is saying a lot. Considering how Boo acts Mayella wouldn’t only have to be lonely she would have to try desperately to try to be around other people.

Significance

This quote shows that Boo Radley and the Radley place, and the whole Radley family in general is slowing becoming part of the neighborhood and being known as just a normal person on the block, instead of a cooped up stranger who just happens to live on their block. I think that eventually Boo will come in with the next important event in the book and will play a role in what happens with that significant event.

Questions

  1. I personally think that Mayella was scared into saying that she was raped by her father and Tom didn’t actually rape her, what do you guys think happened that would make Mayella accuse Tom of rape?
  2. I have noticed that since Aunt Alexandra came, she hasn’t really been doing much to make Scout more of a women, in my opinion she is actually making her worse. What is your guys’ opinion on that?

Chapters 13-15

Quote #4- End of Chapter 15

Atticus and Jem were well ahead of us, and I assumed that Atticus was giving him hell for not going home, but I was wrong. As they passed under a streetlight, Atticus reached out and massaged Jem's hair, his one gesture of affection.

(This was when Jem, Dill, Scout and Atticus were walking back from the incident at the jail cell with the mob that included Mr. Cunningham. Scout and Dill were walking together behind Atticus and Jem, who were walking together)

Response

I thought that this was very kind of Atticus. Even though Jem and Scout should have done what they did and ran after their dad, they did anyway in fear that he might be in trouble. Atticus understood why they did what they did and knows that they only did it because they cared for Atticus. Jem was the most worried and that’s why he started the whole “rescue group”. Atticus only wanted to show Jem that he was glad they did what they did.

Significance

This part of the book has a lot to do with might happen later in the book. It mainly shows that Atticus is learning to understand that children and understand their ways. He understood that Jem and Scout were only worried; they weren’t looking to get in any trouble. So Atticus massaged Jem’s hair in a matter of affection to show he was glad that Jem had done what he had done, and Jem wouldn’t get in trouble. This is also the author’s way to show that everything and everyone is starting to change in the town and in Scout’s family because of the case.

Questions

How do you think the trial, once it starts, will affect the relationship between Scout, Jem and Dill?

Do you think that Atticus will when the trial? Why or why not?

Quote

Chapter 11

Pg 112

“She was. She had her own views about things, a lot different from mine, maybe… son, I told you that if you hadn’t lost your head I’d have made you go read to her. I wanted you to see something about her—I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. Mrs. Dubose won, all ninety-eight pounds of her. According to her views, she died beholden to nothing and nobody. She was the bravest person I ever knew.”

(This was when Atticus was explaining to Jem why Mrs. Dubose was acting the way she did and even though she said nasty things about him, he still thought she was a lady.)

Response

I believe that Atticus is completely right. If at least if you try to win, even if you do win, you still won because you have completed a life lesson. This book in general had lots of very useful and helpful advise, that many people in this country need to abide by. Mrs. Dubose might have said mean things about Atticus but its what someone does when you are about to die and you know it, that determines how much of a decent person they are.

Significance

Atticus is like the voice of reason in the entire book. He might not raise his kids like normal parents would, but he also makes sure that they do the most important thing in life, respect one another’s souls and personality. The point that he said he would have made Jem read to her even if Jem didn’t go crazy, shows that he really cares about people even if the person cares little for him.

Questions

  1. So I think that Atticus is the voice of reason in the book and the most important character, who do you think is the most important character and why?
  2. Do you think that Jem was really mad at Mrs. Dubose when she gave him the box with the flower in it? If yes why would he be so mad? If not what emotions do you think he was feeling to make him through the box in the fire?

Quote #2- Beginning of Chapter 9

"For a number of reasons," said Atticus. "The main one is, if I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature, I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something again."

This was when Atticus was explaining to Scout why he was going to serve the case of Tom Robinson. Scout was confused why people were calling Atticus a “Nigger Lover”.

Atticus is a wise, old man and has a strong pride. He believes that if he didn't take this case that he would be letting the state, the town, and his kids down. I think that this is very noble of him. A normal lawyer might deny the case just because Tom Robinson is a black man. He thinks it is irrelevant and wants to show everyone else that it is irrelevant.

This is significant because it helps show the reader Atticus' chain of thought. That he wants to challenge himself even if he knows he will lose. Its more for his own self pride that he at least tried to lead the case. Him explaining it to Scout helps Scout understand her father better and it helped explain why people are saying nasty things about him.

Questions:

1 If you were in Scout's place, when cecil talked Atticus a "Nigger Lover" what would you do?

2 How did the knot in the tree affect the story, since it got filled up, does it still have to do with the story?

Quote #2- Middle of Chapter 7
"When I went back-" Jem took a deep breath. "Whe I went back, they were folded across the fence.... like they were expectin' me."

This part of the book was when Jem went back to get his pants which he had to take off to get under the fence. He had left them there because he was too scared to grab them. When he went back they were folded up nice and had been stitched up. When he found them they were folded up and hanging on the fence that he had left them under. He was scared to death I could imagine.

When I read this quote I started to feel a tingle going through my back. If this was any other person rather than Boo Radley, it would have just been a friendly gesture. But since the person who stays in his house all the time and who has scary stories being told about him left and right, its like a ghost touching you and you never saw the ghost.

This quote is significant because this is the first sign of Boo Radley helping the kids and trying to be friendly with them. I think this will lead to at least Boo Radley coming out of his house and 1 or 2 people seeing him. Maybe he will even become a respected citizen of the neighborhood and maybe perhaps marry one of the young women in the neighborhood. This is taking to the extreme but in books almost anything can happen. If anything he will help the kids out some more and they will become distant and close friends at the same time

Questions

1: If you were Jem or Scout what would you want to find in the knot in the tree?

2: Perhaps you had a weird neighbor like Boo Radley and perhaps you sneaked into his backyard and then ran away and perhaps you left your pants under his fence, would you go back for them of would you just forget about them, why?

Quote #3: Middle of Chapter 2

The Cunninghams never took anything they can't pay back-no church baskets, and no scrip stamps. They never took anything off of anybody, they get along on what they have. They don't have much, but they get along on it.

This quote from the book describes some of the type of people that lived during The Great Depression. The Cunninghams know that they aren’t very rich and that in fact they are one of the poorest families in Maycomb, but they still want to keep their pride. So they won’t take any offers or donations from anyone. I think this is because they hold their pride so close, and they think if they accept anything that they know they can’t give back in full, that they will lose all that pride. And that they have let themselves down that they weren’t prepared for such a disaster to their family.

Questions
1. So far iun the book we have been introduced to a lot of characters from diverse backgrounds, so far which character do you like the most?

2. Based on Scout's behavior so far in the book, how do you think she will develop throughout the book?

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Quote Analysis

Quote: It said: “ The History of every major Galactic Civilization tends to pass through three distinct and recognizable phases, those of Survival, Inquiry and Sophistication, otherwise known as the How, Why and Where phases.”

“For instance, the first phase is characterized by the question How can we eat? the second by the question Why do we eat? and the third by the question Where shall we have lunch?”

Response

After I read this quote I started to put the theory to the civilizations on earth that I could think of. And as far as I have thought it works and is true. With the Human civilization it started out by cave men which was killing things and just eating it with out preparation. Then later was then all the scientists and “thinkers” came and invented and came up with reasons for all the stuff in the universe. And now a days we really don’t care how we get our food, we buy it, cook it, then figure out where and when we want to eat it and with who.

Significance

This book ties in with the actually world and real life a lot more than I realized at first. Then I remember all the lines that were significant in the book and I realize that most of them are true and make sense. Like that humans are the 3rd worst poets in the universe of what ever. I don’t really like poetry and maybe that’s why because we are one of the worst. Maybe if I experienced the best I would like poetry better than I do.

Questions

Question 1. Do you think that the end of the universe is an actual place or was Zaphod joking when he said that at the end of the book?

Question 2. Now that you have read through the book, if you were in Arthur’s place how would you act to this new atmosphere of the space and that your home earth was destroyed?

The HitchHicker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Quote Analysis

Page 133, paragraph 8 – pages 134, paragraph 2

Zaphod stared at Arthur.

“Did you think of that Earthman?” he demanded.

“Well,” said Arthur, “all I did was…”

“That’s very good thinking, you know. Turn on the Improbability Drive for a second without first activating the proofing screens. Hey, kid, you just saved our lives, you know that?”

“Oh,” said Arthur, “well, it was nothing really…”

“Was it?” said Zaphod, “Oh well forget it then. Okay, computer, take us in to land.”

“But…”

“I said forget it.”

Response

I think that Arthur is still using his “Earthman” manners even when he’s not even on earth anymore. Since Zaphod isn’t used to the term “it was nothing really” he just assumed that Arthur was doing something mindlessly and with out any effort at all. When it actually is just something to say out of courtesy.

Significance

Arthur needs to drop his “Earthman” remarks and sayings really quick or he will keep getting ignored and looked at insignificantly through the entire book. This also looks at Zaphod’s point of view on things. He thinks that if you don’t take credit for something you shouldn't be given credit, even if Zaphod knows he did something good and life saving. Shows how Zaphod thinks everyone should be like him.

Questions

Question 1. What do did you think happened to the ship and the passengers at the beginning of the reading when they weren’t in the ship anymore?

Question 2. How did Zaphod get two heads and an extra arm in the first place? Did I just miss this part of the book? If it really hasn’t said like I think it hasn’t what are some of the ideas you guys think how he got his extra limbs.

Quote analysis

  1. Quote: “Funny,” he intoned funereally, “how just when you think life can’t possibly get any worse it suddenly does.”
  2. I find it ironic, how the company tried to give the robots in the ship human like feelings and it back fires on them and they make they have human emotions to the extreme. They are always really depressed or they are always really happy, they never change depending on the situation.
  3. I think that this will come into the story late because when they meet robots in the future they may have the same problems. They could meet one that is really really mad at everyone and everything and this could lead to some injuries or some very unhappy people in the book.

Questions

Question 1. What do you like the noise and the light was at the end of the reading? Was it the improbability drive or was it the missiles hitting the ship?

Question 2. I think that Trillion is the girl that Arthur met in the bar. It doesn’t come out and say this but it kinda says it when Arthur knew who she was. How do you guys think?

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Pgs 44-88

Quote analysis

The very worst poetry of all perished along with its creator, Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of green bridge, Essex, England in the destruction of the planet earth.

I chose this quote because I liked how the author keeps referring back to the human race on earth to the worst race in the entire universe. Its like we today think of aliens as being gross creatures that want to take over everything, but this book and the author portray the human race as being gross creatures, its still aliens that want to take over, but some of it is contrasted.

This quote tells more about how you will see the rest of the universe treat Author and how they will see him. Author will continue to be called a human, in a bad way, and he will continue to be discriminated against by all the other creatures. Except Ford, Ford will probably be Author’s only friend.

Questions:

  1. What do you think the Improbability Drive is and how does it work?

2. What do you think about the Vogons and how they act?

Quote Analysis
1. Quote: "And can we also assume," said Ford, "that he's going to be staying here all day?"
"So?"
"So all your men are going to be standing around all day doing nothing?"
"Could be, could be..."
"Well, if you're resigned to doing that anyway, you don't actually need him to lie here all the time do you?"
"What?"
"You don't," said Ford patiently, "actually need him here."
Mr. Prosser thought about this.
"Well, no, not as such..." he said, "not exactly need..."
Prosser was worried. He thought that one of them wasn't making a lot of sense.
Ford said, "So if you would just like to take it as read that he's actually here, then he and I could slip off down to the pub for half an hour. How does the sound?"
Mr. Prosser thought it sounded perfectly potty.
"That sounds perfectly reasonable..." he said in a reassuring tone of voice, wondering who he was trying to reassure.
"And if you want to pop off for a quick one of yourself later on" said Ford, "we can always cover for you in return
"Thank you very much," said Mr. Prosser, who no longer knew how to play this at all, "thank you very much, yes, thats very kind..." He frowned, then smiled, then tried to do both at once , failed, grasped hold of his fur hat and rolled it fitfully round the top of his head. He could only assume that he had just won.

2. Response: I found this quote/page interesting because Ford Perfect basically utterly just confused Prosser so that he didn’t know what he was doing and why he was doing it. Also shows how the author wants to portray the human species in this book, as an inferior species to all other aliens in this book.

3. Significance: This quote, like I said in the response, shows how Author is going to be treated and looked at by all the other aliens. He is going to be looked at as less intelligent and the aliens are going to treat him as someone who they need not to affiliate themselves with. Author will probably be ignored through the entire book.

Questions

  1. What do you think Ford Perfect meant when he said ““If we’re unlucky,” said Ford grimily, “the captain might be serious in his threat that he’s going to read us some of his poetry first…”?
  2. How do you think Author will be portrayed as by the Vogons.

Chapter 12 – Cry of the Hunters

FINALLY RESCUED!

I can't believe the Jack would torture Samneric till they agreed to join his tribe. They were still good that’s why they gave me the meat so that I didn't die during the night. Then they tried to keep where I was hiding as much as they could, but then Jack and Roger had to torture them so that they were forced to tell them. And how Jack is the stupidest person I know. They had plenty of time to catch me, they had the resources to catch me, and they had tons of people to help them when it was only me. But I guess it could be that I am a master of deception, I found beautiful hiding places and ran fast when I needed to. My first place of hiding was the thicket above their cave and shelter. So they couldn't get to me until they were forced to throw giant rocks at me and still was able to get a stab at one of their hunters. Then I ran like the wind and got under another thicket, which they did not even know I went into another thicket. Then they went and made an uncontrollable fire which was stupid, this is why I war chief in the first place, and tried to smoke me out. Eventually since it was smoke I did start to run but mostly because there were some savages right near me.

When I was done running and got to the beach I tripped because I looked back and didn’t notice something in the ground that was sticking up. When I looked up from my trip there was a tall buff man in front of me that had a uniform on. He asked me how many of us there were, while this was happening the savages that were chasing me stopped in aw of the giant boat behind the tall man. As I was answering him that I had no idea I knew this was the time I had been waiting for. We were finally getting rescued off this dreaded island.

Chapter 11 – Castle Rock

I can’t believe

I can’t believe that they could do that. That they could kill Piggy like that and now feel a bit of guilty in themselves. They act like killing is just a part of life and that one must kill to survive and go on in a day. Then they start to attack me. All we wanted was fire and get a signal going so we could get rescued, and to get Piggy’s glasses back from those savages. Piggy, all he was trying to do was talk sense then that stupid nut job Roger had to go and kill him with a rock, and destroy the conch. This is getting ridiculous.

No human should get pride in killing someone like Jack does. When Piggy died Jack started to boast at me like that killing someone was his way of proving superiority. Unless he was raised by the Huns, which at the time I doubt that he wasn’t, he should feel some essence that he has done something wrong in killing another human being and then tying up 2 others like he has with Samneric. He had turned this island into the Jurassic period and he is the Tyrannosaurus Rex everyone else on this island are the herbivores that are disposable unless they join him and his group of meat eater, vicious raptors.

I must have more to say, but I think I can hear them still chasing me, there getting closer……….

Chapter #10 – The Shell and the Glasses

My Glasses, Gone!

Ralph was going crazy. He and I didn’t do anything to Simon; it was all Jack and his damn hunters. If we didn’t do that hellish dance then this wouldn’t have happened. Simon also had no right to pop out of the forest in the shadows like that. We had no idea that’s it was him in the first place. For all we knew it was the beast coming to kill us. It was all Jack’s fault we had nothing to do with it. We were sane we had our minds in the right place. Even Samneric believed us and they didn’t do anything either they left early. I couldn’t even see clearly I only had one good eye. How was I to know that it was he coming out of the forest? And the one good eye I had the fire was reflecting blinding me in that eye also. So see I got prove that Ralph and I didn’t do anything to him and that it was all Jack, his hunters, and Simon’s fault. Ralph, Me, and Samneric are all innocent.

That night Jack and his hunters came and raiding our camp. We gave them a force to reckon with. Although they did get my glasses. This isn’t good because now I don’t have any sight and now we don’t have any fire to get a signal out with. We need a radio, or a boat, or a plane now that Samneric had suggested. They won’t be visiting us again unless they want hell brought upon them again. They also have nothing else to take from us. They have my glasses, most of the bigguns and our fire and hope of rescue. I hope that Ralph’s dad comes soon with a whole army and arrest Jack and everyone with him and take us home.

Chapter #9 – A View to a Death

WARNING!

I woke up in a wood forest after what seemed like I had been sleeping for ages. I got up and saw the pig on the stick and remembered the night before and how there was no beast and how the pig said the beast was just what we had created in our minds after being on this god forsaken island for so long. I needed to hurry up that mountain and warn everyone that there was no beast and that they need not worry about it. I ran and climbed up the mountain like a Mountain Lion. Leaping from rock to rock, and running over pebbles that could easily make me fall. We I finally reach the cave I find the parachute man and put him on my shoulder and run as fast I could towards where there was smoke which I assumed was where they all were. I bolted through the forest, and folded up the parachute because I realized that it was slowing me down and that I could get there faster with it gone but needed prove that it was the thing that was bulging.

I reached the end of the forest and could hear chanting in a tribe like song and dance chant that scared me at first but I quickly sucked it up and ran into the open. They were all dancing around a fire so I ran up to the fire and started yelling at them that there was no beast and that they were all being crazy and that they need not worry for they would be rescued soon. But as I started to say there was no beast they started to pounce on my and the body scaring me and I started to run towards the water but they continued the smash and bash me till I could feel that every bone in my body was broken then I saw a spear jab towards me and I could finally notice that this was the end of what I was going …………………..

Chapter # - Gift of the Darkness

Rebellion

How come people are so blind? From the start I was the clear choice for a leader. And now farther into this little adventure I have proven it over and over again. I now bring this point forward in front of everyone and people still are completely blind. I couldn’t believe it. I decided to make my own society, I knew some would be cowards and come to hunt and kill with me. As I expected a couple kids came to me in the middle of the night because they didn’t want Ralph to know that they betrayed him. Like I said cowards! So with my new so called “army” we went hunting for another meat host for food and blood rage. We found a couple and pounce on the most helpless one and slaughtered it. Although because of my believe, I decided that we need to leave the beast the pigs head as a peace offering. As long as I have the beast on my side all of Ralph’s camp will have to come on my side and perhaps even Ralph himself, because we do need a “true hunter” on my team. With all his hunting skills and being able to hit a pig on the nose! O my so good! Ridiculous!

Anyways with or without the beast I know everyone will eventually become to realize that I was the better chief and will come over to my tribe. And I will be the one that tells everyone what to do like it should have been since the beginning. And we will hunt for food all day long and at night have feasts until we explode with meat and then more meat for the rest of us! We will leave like kings on the dream of an island and we will never be rescued from this place of paradise.

Chapter 7 – Shadows and Tall Trees

Perspective of Ralph

Meeting the beast

I have unwilling start to turn into a part of Jacks personality. The others shouldn’t know this, but I am starting to feel the pull of Jack’s hunting and blood thirst. I am supposed to be a role model for the other kids to follow but I am only becoming a lackey of Jack and his way of thinking. We found some pig tracks while we headed up to light the fire. So we followed them so we could get some meat on the way. Then a giant boar came out of nowhere. Using my new found Jack hunting skills, I threw the spear as hard as I could at the boar. It stuck into the boar’s snout and the boar went squealing off into the forest. I felt so proud that I had finally had done something to help the group in a real time of danger, instead of just sticking on the side lines and letting Jack do it all. I started to boast a little about throwing the spear so Robert, trying to be funny, started to act like the boar and charge towards me. It started off fine, but then we eventually found ourselves over Robert with spears jabbing at him ever which way. I came to my normal senses and backed everyone back. I felt embarrassed that I had finally stooped to Jacks level of ferocious and started to actually attack one of my own people.

We quickly moved on to the mountain and started to climb a very steep, difficult and sharp hills with tons of rocks. We need to hurry so everyone started to scrap themselves.

When we finally got near the top everyone wanted to just sleep. Although me, Robert, and Jack wanted to keep going. We continued on and found a cave like entrance in the mountain. We went into it in the dead of night, but once we got near the end me and Robert started to hesitate and Jack taunted us to keep going. We eventually all went up and saw the beast. It was moving in the shadows, big, bulky and was making a reaction like it was a breathing frog. I hope it doesn’t wake up and attack us, if this happens everyone left on this island is dead.

Chapter 6 – Beast from the Air

Piggy

Beast Again

I always have to take care of everyone. Sam and Eric come running down the hill like a giant rock is following them, yelling that they saw the beast. I mean seriously this is no beast. If there was one it would have certainly eaten Sam and Eric, considering there like the loudest kids on the island and they would wake the beast from like 10 kilometers away. At first I thought that no one would believe them I mean why would the beast show him self to Sam and Eric and not silence them. Either they just want attention or the beast is just plain stupid.

Everyone got riled up by another sighting of this beast and immediately got up and grabbed some spears. I guess it would be fun to go running through the forest like animals chasing something that’s not even there....I might even lose a few kilos. But no I have to stay with the stupid little kids and a “majority vote” that I had absolutely no say in. Only the stupid big kids voted and there’re just going to vote for me to stay back so they don’t have to. Without even a word back to me they all start to run off into the woods, making tons of racket are noise which scares the little ones into crying which made the whole experience even worse. After a while of waiting for them to come back I did warm up to the little ones and we started to play some games. But after awhile of this I got really bored and decided to try to go find the big kids, I mean the little guys and handle themselves for an hour or two. Then as I went running one of them started to cry again and when I looked back he was on my leg using my shorts as a tissue for his tears. I tried to kick him off but he kept holding on so I decided I should just stay. I just hope that those kids come back with something good or with good news about killing the beast. Also maybe they will catch a pig or two that we can eat, because I am really starting to get hungry for meat again.

The Meeting

Today Ralph called a meeting late at night. Before this he had gotten mad about how Jack and his stupid hunters had let the fire out when there was a ship, to go hunting. I had a good feeling that this was what it was going to be about. When he finally blew the conch, half the kids were already there and the others were waiting for it and were immediately there when he blew it.

During the whole meeting he told us that we should stop messing around and thinking this was going to be fun. During this meeting I think most of the kids started to realize that this was going to be another fun day messing around playing on the beach. That everyone had to do something productive so that they could survive. Ralph started to actually act like a leader or a chief this meeting. He was telling everyone what their mistakes were and he was trying to get everyone to act like a family and help out everyone else, instead of making one or two people do everything. After Ralph had his talk about how everyone should be productive, Jack grab the conch and started calling everyone babies and sissies for not doing anything and just sitting around. I think this is one of the reasons we voted Ralph chief and not Jack because Ralph trying to be productive and Jack just makes everyone feel bad and doesn’t suggests ways to help.

During Jack talking the talk about the beast rose up. Piggy had the conch and started hinting towards the kid everyone knows is dead and how he thought there was a beast in the jungle. Jack started to argue that he has search the whole island by himself and he has seen no beast. Ralph then joined in and started asking everyone where the beast lived. I think this frightened a lot of the kids so they felt like they were being forced to come up with a answer. One of the littl’uns stood up and stepped forward. After a bunch of bagger against him about his name he finally said that the beats lived in the water. I do not know if this is true or not but one thing is for sure, that is that some of the people believe there is a beast and as long as one person believes it will continue to be mentioned and eventually take over our group.

After the meeting everyone went of into their own groups, since everyone was tried. Ralph told me and Piggy that he was thinking of quitting being the chief. We begged him not to because then Jack would be chief and that would be much worse. I think we convince him not to, but its his decision and he will do was he wants to in the end.

Jack

First Kill!

Today finally for the first time since we have been on this island I caught a pig. To do so I had to take some of my hunters of the fire watch, so we could surround the pig and close in on him. When we finally found the pig, we crept our way around the pig making a circle, enclosing the piglet in a smaller space. As we all started to close the circle, the pig started to run, but thanks to my wonderful attack style he has no where to go. We all jump on top of the pig and started beating it, I finally cut its throat making it able for us to eat.

My hunters and I put the pig on a stake and the twins started to carry it around. Eventually a chant broke out. We decided to go cook it so we headed up back to the fire hoping to be able to cook the pig and eat it as soon as we could. When we finally reached the top there was Simon, Ralph, and Maurice standing there, panting and glaring at us. I start to yell out that we finally got a pig to eat for meat; Ralph interrupted me with, “You let the fire out.” I didn’t understand what the big idea was. He then informed us that there was a ship on the horizon and if we had kept the fire going we might have been rescued. Right then I knew I made a mistake; I quickly sucked it up and started to argue with him. “We got meat!” He just started to repeat, “You let the fire go out.”

Well what has happened has happened and we can’t fix the past. We cook up the meat and distributed the meat evenly through out the kids. The rest of the night it was silent and no one said a word to anyone else, except the casual murmurs that the littuns had with each other

Useless Team Mates

Me and Simon where the only ones doing anything. We were building huts, for everyone, with no help from anyone. We were collecting fruit for everyone with no help from anyone. Seriously this is ridiculous that no one else will do anything but have fun. We are on a island with no civilization anywhere around. No help from any parents and the kids just don't understand that. They just assumed that, just like at home, everything would be done for them. Then Jack had to go and be furtive and sneak up on me and Simon while we where trying to build.

Me and Jack started to fight, it was inscrutable what we were fighting about. First it was about food then it was about huts then for some reason we started to agree with each other and went on a walk. When we got back from the walk we were bewildered to find that Simon had gone. When we went on the walk we both realized that the Jungle was full of tendril and was festoon with tons of flowers. Jack suggested that we should make spears with barbs on them to make it easier to hunt with. He seemed really frustrated that he hadn't killed a pig or gotten meat yet.

At times I am afraid that Jack will just snap and kill some of the kids. Sometimes it seems like he is going to kill me only when I am talking to him. He seems very violent and since he is the only one on this island with a knife. Just the thought that he has a knife puts me on edge sometimes. Since I am the leader it is my job to worry. Sometimes I feel like a mother, but I assume thats what leaders always feel like. Hopefully if we call a meeting in the next few days, we can get everyone working and hunting and helping us survive till we can finally get rescued.

Piggy

I knew we should have built a shelter instead of this. Now it’s a disaster, the whole forest burning to bits. Now where are we going to get fire wood? And we might have lost a kid in the fire also. This day is being destroyed by a bunch of kids. By the time we get rescued, if we do, the whole island will be burned to bits. And at the rate we are going at right now half the kids will be gone also. Won’t be much to rescue if Jack and Ralph continue to be the leaders. I should be leader I would have built a shelter first thing so we have some where to sleep during the night. Then I would have taking down all the names of kids so we knew who was who. O taking down names, another thing Ralph got on top of me about. Everything is always my fault. Next time Jack misses a kill of a pig, he’ll be turning his blade towards me. I mean that fire was the most stupid idea ever. “Hey lets build a fire in the middle of the woods, the woods won’t burn down thats silly!” If we want to get out of this alive we have got to figure out a better system to base everything off of. AND STICK TO IT. I’ll have that stupid conch and no one but me is supposed to talk. But of course not everyone but me talks instead. This is just a group of no good, stupid little kids that have no idea how to survive on their own with no help from adults.

If Jack, Ralph, Simon or me don’t think of something quick we should as well just go jump into that fire with all the other trees and wood. Because if nothing good starts happening and we don’t start turning our attitude around, everyone is going to have a very miserable or worse experience on this god forsaken island.

Simon

Today my friends and I woke up on a strange island. We started to explore and try to get our selves back, but before we were all perfect we heard a sound. At first we though maybe it was a car or gun so we ran back behind a rock. We heard it again and realized it was more like a trumpet. When we heard it another time we decided that it was safe and that we should go see what it was. It wasn’t very far away, only took us about 15 minutes to get there. When we got there, there were 2 kids there, one was fat and was wearing glasses, and the other one was holding some kind of shell. When we approached the kids, the fat one quickly ran towards us, surprising us. Before we knew it he was telling us his name was Piggy and asked us what our names were. When then sat down next to Ralph, as Piggy scared us, and watched groups of kids walk out of the jungle. The last group was very proper and was almost walking in sequence. When they were in sight the leader had a mean, straight face on that scared most of the kids around us. He immediately demanded that we needed to vote for a leader and everyone around me agreed that Ralph was the only right choice since he was the only one that did not scare us. The leader of the proper group then informed us his name was Jack. Since we no one knew where we are, Jack, Ralph and I went to explore the island. We climbed up to the tallest mountain and then, to our demise, we realized we were on a island. On the way back to the camp, we saw a piglet stuck in a tangle of vines. Jack ran up to attack it and kill it for food but then hesitated and the piglet got away. After this Jack got really mad and started flurry around with his knife like a mad man. I just wish tomorrow isn’t as bad as today.
